Loving Cape Town kids was established to provide hope for the future through early childhood education and care to the community of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay.
Volunteers work within a school in the morning and at an aftercare centre in the afternoon.
Over the last 13 years the school has grown and thanks to the generosity of our various corporate and private sponsors, renovations to the existing school buildings were started in 2007. It was completed in 2012 and now consists of 11 classrooms, 17 toilets, a well-equipped kitchen, covered verandah and large playground.
Today Loving Cape Town kids provides childcare and pre-school education for 250 disadvantaged children aged between 10 months and 6 years. The young ones are cared for in a loving way, are taught Christian values, the English language and hygiene, along with being provided with a balanced nutritional diet.
After the school the volunteers work at an after care centre which was founded in 2004 and has since been steadily growing caring for over 90 children.
The holistic After School Care program is to the primary school children of Imizamo Yethu informal settlement of Hout Bay. This service includes home visiting, advocacy and referral for their family carers. We work to ensure that family units remain strong under the strain of illness and poverty and to support communities in caring for their orphaned and vulnerable children.
We long for a world where every child has a hope and a future and the effects of poverty, trauma, and HIV & AIDS are no longer seen.
The core value that the centre holds: every child, regardless of race, colour, religion, history or current living situation is individually loved by the all encompassing love of God. It is this love that causes us to seek the very best for every child we work with in every aspect of that child’s life – physical, social, educational, emotional and spiritual. It is our belief that this love is able to bring fullness of life,

Your role:
The morning:
Assisting Class Teacher with the following duties:
• Welcoming children and assisting with getting ready for their day at the school
• Breakfast – help with laying and clearing of tables, supervise eating during breakfast, snack & lunchtime.
• Brushing of teeth – assist with toothpaste, supervise brushing of teeth, washing of hands and toilet routine during and between lessons. Toilets, wash basins and floor are to be kept clean
• Assist teacher in all areas of the daily class creative activities – this depends on daily activity and program which teacher has to follow.
• Before morning break – prepare fruit and hand out to children. Water /tea to be served to each child
• Outside play – teachers and volunteers to supervise and play with children e.g. ball games etc.
• Music Ring – assist with songs, rhythmic, games and books
• Lunchtime – tables and chairs to be moved onto verandah, oversee eating and help with clearing
• Sleeping time – assist with floor cleaning and preparing classroom for resting time
• Assist in kitchen with food service
• Volunteers are able to assist with art, music or physical science during class or in the afternoon
• Some pupils may need special attention with English, writing, drawing, math or general school work. The class teacher will advise volunteers where to assist
The afternoon:
• Assist in our After-School Care Program (reading, teaching, doing homework, playing games)
• Assisting or Coordinating a Holiday Club program (runs for 1 week, twice a year – April & June)
• Help us organise a quarterly outing for our children (find fun and educational places to visit)
o Help teach computers, in the food gardens, a sport, or some other passion you have
o Help us keep our website up to date
o Help us improve our marketing
o Run a fundraising event for us
o Help us find an activist for every child and their family under our care
o Coordinate Christmas boxes for each of our 90 children at the end of every year
o Coordinate or fund our annual Christmas Party
o Offer your professional services (Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Remedial Teachers, Dieticians, etc)
o Use your green fingers to help make our grounds look beautiful
Please note:
1. Volunteers should refrain from picking up older children, carrying them around, allowing them to cling to their legs or to play with their hair
2. Volunteers may never use physical punishment or degrading remarks to discipline any child
3. Volunteers should treat all children equally i.e. no favoritism
4. Volunteers should always liaise with class teacher before planning something different to existing program
5. Volunteers to liaise with Principal should any problem whatsoever arise
6. Working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 17.00pm. Please bring your own snacks or food. Tea is available.

Is set in the beautiful Hout Bay!
A quiet and comfortable House in the valley of Hout Bay. Just 20 minutes from Cape Town, and easily accessible by public transport.
The House is conveniently located close to the beach and shopping centre, where a variety of activities are offered. These include: Surfing, fishing, diving, sailing, sea kayaking, hiking trails, top restaurants, wine and township tours, and if that's not enough there's loads of live entertainment!
